With over 1 million people infected, British scientists are examining the strain of flu behind the Ukrainian outbreak to see if the virus has mutated.
So far over 189 people have died and post mortems have shown the lungs of two victims were ‘as black as charcoal’. A doctor from Western Ukraine stated that the lungs ‘look like they have been burned.’
Russia, Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Romania are carrying out health checks on Ukrainians entering their territory and Poland has called on the EU to take action. Slovakia has also closed two of its five borders to prevent the spread of the virus.
Some doctors are currently comparing the symptoms of this ‘super flu’ to the Spanish flu that killed millions of people after World War One. So far doctors believe it is not swine flu and a team of specialists are carrying out tests in Kiev and Lviv in an effort to identify the virus.
