ERS Congress 2009 – Vienna, Austria
The 19th ERS Congress returned to Vienna, Austria for a third time and was held at the Messe Wien exhibition grounds. Vienna has hosted two previous ERS Congresses, in 1992 and 2003.
An impressive 18,719 doctors and nurses attended the ERS Congress to give talks and demonstrations to explain their latest lung research.
A ribbon campaign was launched to ask doctors “Can you improve patient care if you smoke?” in the hope that they would set an example and quit smoking.
Over 20,000 ribbons were taken by ERS delegates in Vienna to show their support of a smoke-free conference.
Our campaign was endorsed by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, ELF Awardee 2008, in recognition of his fight against tobacco use worldwide.
